As a parent, I truly understand the value of having beautiful photos of my children, and the school photo is no exception. Traditional school portraits may serve as a record of time, but I wanted more than just a record. I wanted portraits that actually captured my child as I see them – their personality, their essence, their individuality. And I knew other parents felt the same way. That’s why, when I set out on this journey, I decided that Fine Art School Portraits needed to offer real choice. The First Step in the Revolution

My first school booking was with the wonderful Beechdale Nursery in Consett, County Durham. I wasn’t sure how it would feel to photograph so many children in such a short amount of time while aiming to capture real, artistic portraits – but it turned out to be an incredible experience. Each child was unique, and I was able to document that individuality in a way that felt meaningful.

As a parent, I didn’t just want an obligatory photo to “record” my little one’s school days. I wanted more. And as I spoke to other parents, I realised they wanted more too. Many admitted they didn’t love their child’s school photos. Some refused to buy them at all, while others settled for a single token copy just for the memory box. Traditional school photography, often provided by large, impersonal companies, simply wasn’t delivering the kind of meaningful, artistic images that families deserved.
