The True Value of a School Portrait

We all know those photos…those ones hiding in drawers….  those embarrassing school portraits that are generally expected to be horrendous. My school portraits from back in the day featured goofy teeth and a blond mullet. I’m sat poker-straight with a crisp, clean uniform—a reminder of how my brother would tease me with the “Jaws” theme every time I entered the room because of those teeth.  Claire hates her year 7 secondary school portrait – to this day, she’s wondering if she owned a brush and if she was trying to hold in a fart because what’s going on with that “smile!”

And while I did grow into those teeth, I remember being asked to close my mouth when smiling for the camera, presumably to hide them for a ‘prettier’ photo. So, a fake smile and a clean uniform—that was my school portrait.  Claire never did let out that fart!

But it begged the question then and again now:

What is the true value of a school portrait?

Is it just a record of a uniform? Is it just a tick in the box on the school calendar?

What if school portraits were more than an embarrassing, fake photo hiding in a drawer?

What if they were more than just a token purchase?

What if we put families at the heart of our school portrait service?

The True Value of a School Portrait

Putting Families at the Heart of the School Portrait Service

Here’s a thought—what if school portraits were more than just the school uniform? What if they truly captured a child’s character? What if school portraits told a story and showcased a chapter in a child’s life?

Actually… what if the school photo was just a really beautiful, natural image showcasing who your child is right now—the real them? Or better still, what if you had an album of photos?

What If Schools Gave Families What They Really Want?

That’s exactly what we pride ourselves on—our fine art school portrait service; portraits that are all about the child.

A unique opportunity for parents and carers to have affordable, professional portraits that truly showcase kids’ personalities. Beautiful, natural school portraits that you just had to have—proudly displayed on the wall, not just hidden away in a drawer.

So, parents and carers, if you had a choice, would you choose that forced smile and silly background? Or would you choose a portrait that melts your heart—one that gives you that ‘ahhh’ moment?

Beautiful, Affordable Portraits

As a parent, I knew I wanted those lush photos on my walls. And I wanted that for all parents, carers, and families. That’s why we put them at the heart of our service. Every family should have beautiful photos and a choice in how they use them. And they should be affordable—because if they’re not, then it’s not really a choice, and that isn’t fair.

Why shouldn’t parents have beautiful, professional photos at an affordable price?

Parents shouldn’t have to pay hundreds of pounds just to get their favourite digital images. We offer a digital album of beautiful images at an amazing value of just £39. And for parents with more than one child in the setting, if they choose to buy individual digital albums, they also get their sibling digital album completely free. Because while you might have a favourite, you shouldn’t have to pick a favourite when it comes to school portraits!

Beautiful Portraits with Choice

We aim to deliver an album of images, so we take as many as we can in the few minutes we have with your little ones. We promise at least five different images but never limit the number we take and deliver. This depends entirely on your child on the day. Kids have good days and bad days, and we’ll never push them—they’re not performing monkeys. But we always strive to give you as much variety as possible.

We want parents to have a real choice of images—from black and white to colour, from lush close-ups to longer-range shots. We also want them to be able to crop images to fit different sizes and select the features they love most.

Colour portraits are vivid and fabulous for making big eyes pop, while black and white images create impact—there’s something so artistic, so classic about them. A black and white portrait can grab you just as much as any colour image when displayed as artwork on your walls.

The Choice Is Yours

The choice is yours! You can pick a close-up shot that fills the frame with big, sparkling eyes, or a longer-range shot that captures the school logo, their wild hair, or what their hands are doing. You can crop your image to highlight the features you love the most and choose from a variety of product and size options.

Go ‘a la carte’ or pick from one of our collections for multiple discounts. But we’ve kept it simple. We don’t limit collections to a single image or fill them with tiny print sizes you won’t use—because we want to offer value and choice.

Instead, we listened to our parents, and they told us what they wanted.

A 5 x 7-inch print is a firm favourite and is perfect for a framed portrait. We offer 5 x 7 inches and above because fine art portraits are meant for walls. Go large!

And okay—while Grandad might love a wallet-sized photo, not many other people do! So, we’ve built our collections around the most popular sizes because we want to give you more for your money.

To top it all off, we do everything online—a beautifully curated online gallery with pre-printed QR login cards for secure, easy access, plus multiple payment options.

A Beautiful Album of Images, Fabulous Choice, and Amazing Value!

Imagine—all of this from a school portrait.  The true value of a school portrait!!!

Thank goodness things have moved on!
